Thanks to funding from Brent Council, Sports England and Active New You this class is only £2 for a limited time only.  Open to all, this Jamaican Dancehall class is bound to keep you fit whilst teaching the latest and old school Dancehall steps. 

This class is designed for all levels, dancers and non dancers welcome, you just need to want to dance!

Residency and exchange at Musées De La Civilisation in Canada

Andrea and three other artist will explore and develop work as part of the museums, 'Rebel Bodies' exhibition. 
Here the public can view open rehearsals to see how the artists work, ask questions and may even get opportunities to take part in the creative process. 
                                                               During her time in Canada, Andrea will be focusing on her solo, 'Migrant Conversation' and revisiting the duet,                                                                    'Skin'.

Intern wanted - Monday 23rd March to Saturday 11th April

AQ Arts are looking for a passionate, forward thinking and dedicated intern for an exciting new project.

The successful candidate will support our social media campaign, deliver administration tasks, assist in the creative process of new piece, Penny, and the event, The Next Phase.

As this is not a paid position, AQ Arts will cover travel expenses. The intern will also receive 3 
mentoring session with the Company Director, Andrea Queens, and take part in company class  which will consist of contemporary dance influenced by capoeira and breaking, vocal and acting sessions.

You will be needed for a maximum of 6 days out of the dates below.

There is space for flexibility on dates except for March 23rd and April 10th

 AQ Arts Presents... THE NEXT PHASE  - April 10th

The Next Phase, a night of dance, music and poetry.

AQ Arts will feature and present a work in progress entitled, 'Penny' which has been created and choreographed by Andrea Queens

This night will take you on a roller coaster of emotions, with each piece focusing on the thoughts and feelings of closing an old chapter and stepping into a new one.

Performances by Yomi 'GREEdS' Sode, Linah Nambooze and the Afro Jazz Ensemble.

 PENNY - The Next Phase - April 10th

This March, Andrea will be in the studio creating an exciting new piece as a result of becoming an Arts Council England funded artist. 

Penny will be performed as a work in progress  at, The Next Phase, a night curated by AQ Arts.  
Using contemporary dance influenced by breakdance and capoeira, music and poetry, Penny will explore the process of mourning.

 Apples and Snakes - Word's a Stage - Tue 14 April 

Andrea is extreamly excited to be on board this Apple and Snakes project. 
Under the direction and creative leader Robin Vaughan-Williams, Andrea and 3 fellow poets have be working on improvised poetry.

Andrea is working with Folk Dance remixed for the second year running.

AQ Arts is looking for performers confident in using the voice and movement
for a short project, to be performed on the 24th of April.  We would be interested to hear from dancers who act or poets interested in working with movement.

Please note that this is an unpaid opportunity which would be great for performers who want to expand there skills and push beyond there comfort zones.
Auditions are via video. To apply please send your CV and short video between 1-4 minutes to andrea.queens@yahoo.com.  
The audition video must feature at least one minute of movement (any style) plus delivery of a story or poem. 




                                                                   AQ Arts Presents: The Home Is Where The Art Lives Project 


This project was created as a result of the, 'Home Is Where The Art Lives,' video below and its concept. The project will continue to visit the idea of home for a variety of artists. 
After discussing the video and its representations with a good friend, the movement based project of short videos exploring the homes of art was born. Looking into where we choose to be creative, the freedom that space brings without judgment or note of ability and how it impacts on our lives.

The first edition is also Andrea's
 first Afro Jazz, dance on film piece. Looking at the space of a dancer, where music meets movement.

'Make It Happen' is a creative challenge for dancers, spoken word artists and singers who are randomly paired to collaborate and produce work in a short space of time. We got through first round last month, come and suport us at Rich Mix for the final round.

You can also catch me performing in ,Yaye Dib Sabar company presents 'NJAKHAS', showcasing new work by director and choreographer Diene 'Waaw Waaw' Sagna.
Taken from the Senegalese language Wolof meaning 'patchwork', NJAKHAS mixes powerful West African movements and rhythms with a contemporary twist.
Free and open to the public, the show will debut on Saturday 29th June at 18:00 at the Siobhan Davies Studios as part of the JUMPforJOY!! 2013 event.

AQ Arts Performance - Thursday 20th June  Coming to America is 25
 
Join us for the First Afro Jazz performance at ‘Coming to America is 25’. Presented by We are Parable in partnership with Stratford Picturehouse, the event celebrates the 25th anniversary of the cinematic release of the film 'Coming to America'.
 
Andrea Queens (AQarts) will be opening for the event with a piece entitled, ‘Bearer Of The Rose’. Inspired by Akeem’s (Eddie Murphy’s character)decision to take charge of his life.
 
‘The fun begins from 7pm, with rose bearers, African dancers, drummers, stallholders and the cocktails, you can be sure to be fully immersed within the "Coming to America" experience as Zamunda comes to Stratford.’

Come and support us in the first round of Make It Happen.
 
Make It Happen is a creative challenge for dancers, spoken word artists and singers to collaborate and produce work in just two weeks.  The performance takes place on Saturday 15th . Selected groups will be voted through to a second round to develop their work and perform in July.
